Toiere

Operatic arias, te reo Māori and sublime vocal prowess

Following its acclaimed 2025 Auckland Arts Festival premiere and 2026 performances in Nelson, Kerikeri and Waitangi, Toiere returns in 2027 in an expanded form. Bringing together operatic arias, te reo Māori and sublime vocal prowess, treasured operatic masterpieces are reimagined across original languages and te reo Māori. Performed by four outstanding soloists alongside expanded vocal ensembles, familiar melodies are woven through harmony and cultural exchange in a celebration of voice, language and identity, creating a sound world deeply rooted in Aotearoa and revealing fresh possibilities for opera from Aotearoa New Zealand.
