The Marriage of Figaro
Mozart’s Masterpiece
Bursting with wit, romance and glorious music, The Marriage of Figaro is opera at its most irresistible.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest operas ever written, Mozart’s comic masterpiece packs one chaotic day with secret schemes, mistaken identities, jealous lovers and razor-sharp humour, all as Figaro and Susanna’s wedding is thrown hilariously off course.
On the eve of their wedding, Figaro and Susanna must outsmart a philandering Count, untangle a web of romantic mischief and survive a household where everyone seems to be hiding something. Clever, fast-paced and surprisingly relatable, it’s a story where the servants are always one step ahead of the aristocrats.
This sumptuous staging from superstar creative duo Lindy Hume and Tracy Grant Lord features an outstanding principal cast from Aotearoa and Australia, joined by the Freemasons Foundation New Zealand Opera Chorus and Orchestra Wellington. Conducted for the first time for New Zealand Opera by internationally acclaimed British conductor James Judd, this is opera at its most vivid, joyful and entertaining.
Whether you’re discovering opera for the first time or returning to a beloved classic, The Marriage of Figaro is pure joy.
