New Zealand Opera is pleased to announce Andrew Little, Mayor of Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, as a new Patron.
His appointment reflects a shared commitment to connecting people and communities across Aotearoa through the power of storytelling and the human singing voice.
Mayor Little joins Phil Mauger (Ōtautahi, Christchurch) and Desley Simpson (Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland), representing the three main centres where New Zealand Opera presents its work.
Reaching people in meaningful and accessible ways is at the heart of New Zealand Opera’s kaupapa. The company is focused on ensuring opera connects with everyone – from those discovering the art form for the first time to lifelong devotees.
“I am honored to accept this patronage and support NZ Opera’s vibrant presence here in the capital. The arts are essential to the cultural identity of Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington – and the wider country – and I look forward to enjoying more world-class opera in our city.”
New Zealand Opera welcomes Mayor Little’s support and looks forward to continuing to share opera with communities across the country.
