Jonathan Lemalu is New Zealand-born Samoan operatic bass.  He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Otago and postgrad diplomas in Advanced Performance (Voice) with Distinction from London’s RCM, and performance teaching (HE) from London’s GSMD where he is a Professor of Voice.   On the opera, concert and recital stage his considerable repertoire includes Mozart, Puccini, Handel, Berlioz, Britten, Verdi and Wagner roles.  He performs regularly at many of the worlds leading opera houses and concert halls including English National Opera, The Royal Opera, Chicago Lyric, San Francisco, The Royal Albert Hall, The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall and Edinburgh, Salzburg, Gergiev and Baden-Baden Festivals with conductors Rattle, Pappano, Dutoit, Harnoncourt, Colin Davis, Jurowski, Andrew Davis, Mehta and Gergiev and pianists Roger Vignoles, Malcolm Martineau and Graham Johnson.   Jonathan’s discography of orchestral and song recordings with EMI Classics, SONY, Hyperion, LSO Live and Archiv have won Royal Philharmonic Society Debut Artist, Gramophone Debut Disc of the Year, ECHO Classik Awards, TUI Classical Album of the Year and a Grammy Award for Best Opera recording
