Make music, mozart and more

After several weeks in ‘lockdown’ I’m sure we are all feeling a little restless. The need for some new activities, new focus and energy. We’ve found some interactive musical apps for kids including one titled ‘Let’s go to the opera’. We share a some insights and an animated story about the life of Mozart and a look behind the scenes at the New Zealand Opera studios.

The Story of Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791) is one of the most famous composers of all time. He was born in a city called Salzburg in Austria. He was one of two surviving children to his parents who were also musicians, so Wolfgang grew up into a life of music.

At an early age of 6 he composed his first piece of music. His father would take him all over Austria and Vienna to perform to Royalty and important figures of the time. Mozart worked mostly in the thriving city of Vienna and composed over 600 works including concertos, symphonies, string quartets, piano sonatas, and operas. Unfortunately, he died very young at the age of 35, leaving a tremendous legacy of music for all of us to enjoy.

Here’s an animated story on the life of Mozart.

Behind the scenes at New Zealand Opera.

Last week we shared some insights into the types of voices in an opera. Let’s take a look behind the scenes to the place where New Zealand Opera’s productions are created. This video was filmed during one of our past productions of Bizet’s Carmen. We are all working from home at the moment but our studios will soon be brought to life for our next production later in the year. Take care in your bubble!
