David Kelly and Soomin Kim

David Kelly is a repetiteur and pianist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, New Zealand. He is Principal Repetiteur for New Zealand Opera. He performs regularly with the Auckland Philharmonia, Auckland Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Wellington, and is a coach and accompanist at the New Zealand Opera School and the Universities of Waikato and
Auckland. He performs with flutist Luca Manghi on the critically applauded recital disc Quays (Atoll Records, ACD 882), and is a member of the Donizetti Trio, which undertook national tours in 2014 and 2019 for Chamber Music New Zealand. David studied at the University of Canterbury with Diedre Irons and Maurice Till and is a graduate of the Australian Opera Studio.

Soomin Kim is a pianist and organist in demand in many musical domains across Auckland. She frequently works with singers and in particular enjoyed working on New Zealand Opera’s recent production of Red! as the répétiteur. Other recent highlights include Die tote Stadt and Dame Catherine Tizard State Memorial with the Auckland Philharmonia. She also regularly features in Auckland Philharmonia’s educational events as an accompanist. Born in Korea, she began learning the piano at the age of six and continued after moving to New Zealand at age 15. She obtained LTCL Piano Recital in Tauranga under the tutelage of Denise Hull, then went on to study at the University of Auckland under Stephen De Pledge. During her studies she was selected as a Haydn Staples Piano Scholar, which involved concerti and chamber music performances with Auckland Philharmonia and coaching from internationally renowned pianists.
