Opera in the Community
We believe opera has the power to bring joy, inspire, and build community.
We want our activities to be accessible and relevant to all.
We celebrate the opportunity that comes from human connection through the arts.
Featuring behind-the-scenes tours of the Wardrobe, Wigs and Make-up Departments, the opportunity to watch artists at work in the rehearsal studio, and dress-ups for all ages, New Zealand Opera’s Open Day is a wonderful opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes create an opera.
Our next Open day is 23 May 2020. Free entry to all.
As an international partner of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute , New Zealand Opera is proud to deliver the Lullaby Project throughout Aotearoa New Zealand, working with new parents to write personalised lullabies for their tamariki.
The Lullaby Project was launched by Carnegie Hall in 2011, working with new and expecting parents to write personal lullabies for their child or children with the help of professional artists.
Pop Up Chorus
Designed to celebrate the aging voice, the Pop-Up Chorus brings high-quality opera into community centres and retirement villages around the country. World class singers, répétiteurs and conductors work with seniors to learn new music and old favourites, supporting a life-long love of singing.
We are currently looking for sponsors and partners to help us deliver Pop-Up Choruses throughout New Zealand. Let us know if you are interested in working with us to start a Pop-Up Chorus in your community.
