Tiziano Santi trained according to the traditional path of artistic studies; after graduating in Stage Design at the State Art Institute “P. Toschi” in Parma, he obtained a degree in scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and finally specialized at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Arena di Verona.
From the very beginning he worked both as a set designer, designer and director of scenographic creation laboratories at private structures and Opera Houses including the Teatro Regio in Parma, the Arena di Verona and various Italian and European theaters.
The artistic evolution and the search for new scenographic expressions led him to become interested in the creation of theme parks and the creation of films as an Art Director, developing a personal sensitivity for the scenic space, the material and the various languages that characterize it.
Among the most significant works of his career are the scenography for concerts and operas performed in Malaysia, Italy, South Ireland, Spain, Germany, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Belgium, south korea, france, monte carlo, united states, hungary, serbia, greece, australia, lithuania, and Russia where with the opera “Così fan tutte”, performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, he received a nomination for the “Golden Mask” award. The following year, on the occasion of the celebrations for the three hundredth anniversary of the foundation of St. Petersburg, he was called to design the scenography for the Trittico by G. Puccini, a show officially representing the Italian state, with which he won the “Golden Ceiling” award, the highest recognition of the city of St. Petersburg.
Another important stage in his artistic growth is represented by the design of the scenes for the five shows of the ‘Progetto Domani’, a cultural event included in the program of the Turin 2006 Cultural Olympics, directed by Luca Ronconi. Three of these titles won the 2006 “UBU” award for best scenography. He continues a fruitful collaboration with the same director for various prose and opera projects.
Since 2000 he has taken on the role of Director of Stage Settings at the Teatro Regio in Parma, TST Teatro Stabile in Turin, Teatro Comunale in Piacenza, Teatro dell’ Opera in Florence Maggio Fiorentino and consultant at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa.
He currently collaborates with internationally renowned directors on various opera projects. Upcoming productions in the planning phase for 2025: Tamerlano by Hendel for the Gottingen Theatre, Faust by Gounod for the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and L’italiana in Algeri by Rossini for the Rossini festival in Pesaro.
