Matthew Marshall

Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Matthew Marshall is a graduate of the 2000 WAAPA Production & Design course.

Matt has been nominated for his work twice by The Helpmann Awards for Best Lighting Design (2012, 2017) and has received nominations for Best Lighting Design from the Australian Production Design Guild. With 20 years of design experience Matt has worked for all the major performing arts companies and festivals in Australia.Matt’s previous work with New Zealand Opera includes Così fan tutte, The Marriage of Figaro, The Unruly Tourists and Turn of the Screw. Other notable recent designs include The Crowd & I (ACO), Eireborne (National Tour), A Winter’s Journey (Musica Viva), Ballet at the Quarry (West Australian Ballet), Mary Stuart (Perth Festival), The Barber of Seville (State Opera of South Australia; Seattle Opera), Whale Fall (Perth Festival), The Other Place (Fremantle Theatre Company), Cinderella (Seattle Opera), Tchaikovsky (Tulsa Ballet), La bohème (Opera Australia), American Idiot (Shake & Stir/QPAC), Askungen (Royal Swedish Opera), Carmen (Oper Leipzig), La Cenerentola (Oper Leipzig; San Diego Opera).
