Daisy Evans works in opera, film and theatre as a director and writer. She won the Royal Philharmonic Society Opera Award and the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Production in Opera, and Outstanding Direction for her production of Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle, which has been performed globally.
Recent productions include Puccini’s Madama Butterfly for Irish National Opera, Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims for Leipzig Opera, Britten’s Albert Herring for Scottish Opera, Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Donizetti’s Don Pasquale for Welsh National Opera, a film of Menotti’s The Telephone for the Edinburgh International Festival, Carmen Remastered for the Barbican and Royal Opera House, and Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade for Irish National Opera, the Linbury, Royal Opera House Covent Garden and Théâtre Equilibre, Fribourg, which earnt her an Olivier Award nomination.
As founder and Artistic Director of Silent Opera, Daisy has directed new versions of many operas including Puccini’s La bohème and Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas. Silent Opera has toured internationally, and co-produced with British Youth Opera, English National Opera, Fondazione Haydn and Beijing Music Festival.
As Librettist, she has written English versions of Bluebeard’s Castle, Hansel and Gretel, Don Pasquale, The Cunning Little Vixen, Don Giovanni, L’Orfeo and La bohème.
