Mezzo-Soprano

Returning to Aotearoa following a well-received turn as Dorabella in NZ Opera’s 2024 season of Così Fan Tutte, Polish mezzo-soprano Hanna Hipp is held in high regard worldwide for her ardent and impassioned singing. A former member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Hanna has appeared widely in operas, on the concert platform and on disc – her recorded highlights include Anna (Les troyens with Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Warner Classics) and Flora (La traviata at the Glyndebourne Festival, Opus Arte DVD).

Hanna first performed the role of Isolier for Seattle Opera, where she has also sung Dorabella (Così fan tutte) and Beatrice (Beatrice and Benedict). Other recent major roles include Der Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Opera North), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier, Garsington Opera), Offred (The Handmaid’s Tale, Royal Danish Theatre), and for the Royal Opera House, Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel).
