Te Ohorere is a proud descendant of Ngāiterangi, Waitaha, Ngāti Pukenga, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga. She is a Soprano based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Te Ohorere began voice lessons with Dr. Morag Atchison during high school and was encouraged to pursue classical singing. This year she has finished her Master of Music studies in Classical Voice Performance at the University of Auckland with Dr. Te Oti Rakena where she was a University of Auckland Māori Postgraduate Scholar.
Her singing journey started in musicals as a child and progressed to choirs during high school. Te Ohorere is now a member of Voices New Zealand 60 and was previously a member in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Choir touring to Canada in 2016 and the New Zealand Youth Choir where they toured around the Pacific Islands in 2019. She has been awarded various awards around Aotearoa, her most notable include the University of Auckland Blues Award Finalist Award for the Most Meritorious Performance 2018, NZ Aria Award Most Promising Competitor Under 21 in 2017 and 2018, and the Most Promising Competitor at the Wellington Aria Competition 2022.
Te Ohorere has performed as a soloist with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, St Matthew’s Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Choir and in 2020 was featured in an online miniseries with Chamber Music New Zealand. In 2022 and 2023 she was honoured to be the New Zealand and Australian anthem singer at the Auckland War Memorial ANZAC Commemorations. Te Ohorere attended the 2020 and 2021 NZ Opera Schools and has been a member of the New Zealand Opera Freemasons Chorus since 2019.
Outside of singing she was a member of the 2023 Auckland Theatre Company Youth Company and was in the ensemble for their production of King Lear. She is a Voice Actor and studies law in her spare time. Te Ohorere is planning to audition for further study in Aotearoa and later in the U.S. as she wishes to be able to perform internationally and share her passion for singing in Aotearoa.
