Ngati Kahungunu and Ngaariki Kaiputahi, Flaxmere-born Soprano, Katherine Winitana has been launching herself head first into classical voice since making the switch from jazz and contemporary music in 2020.
Winitana has since received First Class Honours in Classical Voice, been a Dame Malvina Major Studio artist with New Zealand Opera (2021-2022), attended New Zealand Opera School (2020-2023) and most recently was one of six singers in the inaugural Masters in Opera Program at Waikato University, TANZOS. In the programme Winitana has had the chance to work with world-class tutors and singers from the likes of Sir Simon Keenlyside, Nikki Li Hartliep, Jack Li Vigni and the Jette Parker Young Artist Faculty.
