Matthew Kereama recently completed a BMUS with HONS majoring in Classical Performance at the University of Auckland where his dissertation focused on the dialogue of opera directors.
Matthew is passionate about forging a career as a Māori opera director.
Over the past seven years he has been working in professional theatres in Auckland, as both a performer and stage director and over this time has written and produced four theatre productions. He also developed the Rosmini Academy of Performing Arts teaching acting to college students.
Matthew recently was the Assistant Director on Wellington Opera’s, Don Giovanni. He has been working closely with professional directors from NZ Opera, Auckland Theatre Company and Te Rehia Theatre Company in Assistant Director roles.
