Imogen Thirlwall


Born in Aotearoa New Zealand, Imogen Thirlwall is a versatile lyric coloratura soprano working in Germany. In the 2017/18 season, Imogen joined Meininger Staatstheater, Thüringen, as a chorus soprano with soloist commitments, appearing since in more than 150 performances across opera, operetta, musical theatre and in concert. Imogen is alumna of the prestigious Franz Schubert Institut lied programme in Austria and masterclass artist for the Berlin Art Song Festival. Imogen made her European debut in a jazz ensemble at the Berliner Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal.

Imogen was a 2017 New Zealand Opera Artist, New Zealand Aria finalist, Lexus Song Quest semifinalist, alumna of the New Zealand Opera School, and recipient of a Dame Malvina Major Foundation High Achievers Award and a Goethe Institut Neuseeland Young Artist Scholarship. With a full scholarship for academic excellence, Imogen holds a Master of Music in Classical Performance Voice from Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music.

Imogen makes her New Zealand Opera principal artist debut in The Marriage of Figaro, performing Barbarina and covering Susanna, as the inaugural 2021 Freemasons Guest Artist.
