Chas Matautu Lefaga, Sāmoa; Ngāti Hine, Aotearoa) is a South Auckland artist, dancer, choreographer and researcher. Chas is currently completing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Dance at the University of Auckland. She was also the Tuākana mentor for Dance Studies in 2022. She is currently a dancer and business/funding advisor for South Auckland dance crew, Nappyboyz and is also part of the NZX Next training programme for adults. Chas’ research interests lie in navigating Wā & Vā as Mana Moana within street dance spaces of South Auckland, Aotearoa and how this research might contribute to better-informed community initiatives for rangatahi (youth). Chas recently performed in the season of Company B – ‘ I Am A Renaissance’, produced by Black Grace.
