Brent Stewart is a conductor, percussionist and pianist based in Wellington. Brent is the Music Director of New Zealand’s largest symphonic choir, Orpheus Choir Wellington, the Assistant Director and pianist for the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir, Principal Percussionist of Orchestra Wellington, a casual percussionist with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and was the Music Director of the Hutt Valley Orchestra from 2007 until the end of 2016. He has extensive experience performing and touring nationally and internationally and has performed/recorded as a concerto-soloist (percussion) with the NZSO, Wellington Youth Orchestra, and the Auckland Philharmonia. Recent engagements include conducting St Matthew’s Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington, and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Brent also directs NZSO’s live streams, and on behalf of the New Zealand Choral Federation, provides conductor mentoring. Recently, Brent left his post as Head of Music at Wellington East Girls’ College after 9 years to focus on his freelance music activities.
