6:24 Voices of Aotearoa Project Timeline
The project will be facilitated and supported by New Zealand Opera and will be sectioned out over four phases.
Phase One: Expressions of Interest closes 31 July 2020
To take part in this project individuals must apply by submitting an Expression of Interest. (link to form here) This is not a commissioned project at this stage. Participants will be shortlisted and allocated into teams of four. Those who are based outside Auckland will be offered flights, accommodation and per diems to attend workshops.
Phase Two: Selection Process – 31 July – 8 September 2020
All applicants will be informed of the outcome of the selection process and successful shortlisted applicants will be invited to take part in the next phase of the project. Each group will receive a detailed brief outlining the process and kaupapa of the project.
Phase Three: Workshops – 31 October 2020 – 24 January 2021
New Zealand Opera will facilitate workshops at our Opera Studio in Parnell whereby the teams will work with NZ Opera’s General Director and Head of Music to explore what opera is and what it might be within the context of creating new work. Teams will work together to shape their response to the project brief and at a later point rehearse their pieces towards a performance in January 2021. Workshop dates will take place over two sessions; 31 October – 1 November 2020 and 23 – 24 January 2021.
The song will be a maximum of five minutes and must have a dramatic direction and impact, a response to the concept of a moment of song. It must have a title and a short introduction.
Phase Four: workshop 2 completion / performance – 24 January 2021
All six teams will present their piece to a special invite only performance at New Zealand Opera.
Beyond Phase Four: New Zealand Opera may see some teams further supported to develop short works (commissions), which may then be staged by New Zealand Opera.
