The Flying Dutchman actor auditions

New Zealand Opera is holding auditions for the Wellington and Auckland seasons of The Flying Dutchman. We need 9 male actors and 1 female actor for non-speaking roles in each city. Applicants must be comfortable with performing in little or no clothing. They must have a commanding stage presence and move confidently and easily.

New Zealand Opera’s Chairman, Sir David Gascoigne, announced today that Aidan Lang, General Director of New Zealand Opera, will be leaving the company in March 2014 to take up the position of General Director of Seattle Opera.

Madame Butterfly gets dressed up

Two outrageously lucky members of the Madame Butterfly creative team recently hit the streets of Tokyo, Japan on a whirlwind shopping adventure to source the perfect costumes for our upcoming production. NZ Opera’s wardrobe supervisor Sophie Ham and Madame Butterfly production designer Christina Smith spent eight days exploring Tokyo districts for authentic second hand kimonos and traditional fabrics and the fruits of their labour are spectacular!
