BARBARA GRAHAM

, soprano

Holds BMus in Vocal Performance, BSc in Marine Biology (Victoria University Wellington), and a Diploma in Publishing (Whitireia New Zealand). Studied at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, France, with Nathalie Spinosi in 2010. Former New Zealand Opera Emerging Artist (2007/2008). Winner of the Alliance Française Song Competition, the 2010 Napier Computer Systems Aria, and was a 2009 semi-finalist in the Lexus Song Quest. Also in 2010, she won 2nd prize in the Symphonies d’Automne in Macon, France, later winning 1st prize, as well as the mélodie prize, in the Festival de Musique et de Langue Françaises in Paris. Roles include Sophie: Der Rosenkavalier, Celidora: L’Oca del Cairo, Susanna: The Marriage of Figaro (Days Bay Opera); Despina: Così fan tutte (Auckland Opera Studio); Cunegonde: Candide (Orpheus Choir of Wellington); Belinda: Dido and Aeneas(Northern Chorale); Bastienne: Bastien and Bastienne, Cupid: King Arthur (Boutique Opera); several roles in The Cunning Little Vixen (NIMBY);Jenny Diver: Polly (NZSM); Sandman/Dew Fairy: Hansel and Gretel (NZO Opera-in-Schools); Barena/Jano: Jenufa (covers, NZO); and Christine: The Phantom of the Opera (Wellington Musical Theatre). Solo concert repertoire includes El Amor Brujo (Ensemble Furians, Paris), Couperin’s Leçons de ténèbres, Orff’s Carmina Burana (Southern Sinfonia), Mozart’s C minor Mass (Taupo Choral Society), Cloudburst (Orpheus Choir), Gounod’s Messe Solennelle (Ars Nova), Mendelssohn’s Elijah (NZ Choral Federation), Handel’s Dixit dominus (Kapiti Chamber Choir). In 2014 she co-produced and performed in a cabaret show, Two Peas in a Pod. Current Freemasons Opera Scholar.

DEREK HILL

, tenor

Graduated from McGill University, Montreal, with high distinction in voice. Winner Becroft Aria. Roles include Count Belfiore: La Finta Giardiniera (Opera Unleashed); Matteo Borsa: Rigoletto, Malcolm: Macbeth, Macduff: Macbeth (cover), Don Curzio: The Marriage of Figaro, Don Basilio: The Marriage of Figaro (cover), Georges Dumenil: The Opera Ball, Lensky: Eugene Onegin (cover), Števa: Jenůfa, Normanno: Lucia di Lammermoor, First Priest/Armed Man: The Magic Flute, Gastone: La Traviata (NZO); Gonzalve: L'heure Espagnole (SO); Pinkerton: Madama Butterfly, Turridu: Cavalleria Rusticana (Hamilton Garden Opera); Edgardo: Lucia di Lammermoor (cover)(CO); Ford: Falstaff (OO). EMMA ROXBURGH

, soprano

Holds BMus (Hons) in Voice, Otago University. Graduate Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. Roles include Annina: La traviata (cover), Romilda: Xerxes (cover), Settler 3/Ensemble: Hōhepa, Susanna: The Marriage of Figaro (cover), Hortense: The Opera Ball, Jano: Jenůfa, Second Lady: The Magic Flute (cover), Siebel: Faust (cover) (NZO); Ramiro: La Finta Giardiniera (Opera Unleashed). Concert repertoire includes Beethoven’s Mass in C (Auckland Choral), Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite no 2 (APO), Bach B Minor mass (Ensemble Polymnia 2014), and an Operatunity tour. In 2015, Emma performs the world premier of ‘Lullabies’ by Anthony Ritchie with Auckland Choral and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with Bach Musica.

Holds MMus (Classical Vocal) (University of Auckland) and BMus (Victoria University, Wellington). Recipient of the Ella C. Wilson award. Roles include Giannetta: L’elisir d’amore (Festival Opera Napier); Pamina/1st Lady: The Magic Flute and the Stolen Sun (NZO Opera-in-Schools); Rosalinda: Die Fledermaus, Goddess of the Sea: Ulla's Odyssey (Opera Factory); Lieschen: Coffee Cantata, Diane: Orfee aux Enfers, Ino: Semele by Eccles (Victoria University). Concert repertoire includes Mozart's Exultate Jubilate (University of Auckland Symphony Orchestra), Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor (Waiheke Choral Society), Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (Wellington Youth Orchestra), Pierrot Lunaire (Victoria University) and has performed with the APO education programme. Solo appearances in 2015 include The Gilded Cage for White Night (Auckland Arts Festival); Letters in Wartime with the APO and Kodály’s Psalmus Hungarius with the Aorangi Singers.

MORAG MCDOWELL

, soprano

Graduated Master of Laws and BA (English Lit), Auckland University. Roles include Galatea: Acis & Galatea (SMCO, NZO (cover)), Atalanta: Xerxes (cover), The Page: Rigoletto, Esmeralda: The Bartered Bride (cover), Bridesmaid: The Marriage of Figaro, Marguérite: The Opera Ball,Lucia: Lucia di Lammermoor (cover), Queen of the Night: The Magic Flute (cover), First Nymph: Acis and Galatea (NZO); Adina: Elixir of Love (Opera Hawkes Bay); Belinda: Dido and Aeneas (Viva Voce);Britannia: King Arthur (Boutique Opera). Studied at Wellington’s Massey University Conservatorium of Music and Royal College of Music, London. Was a member of D’Oyly Carte Opera Company (UK).
